Course program:

Project monitoring

We’ll help you understand what you need to track on the project and where to get data, will learn methods of monitoring and controlling the project.
Content control.
Earned Value Method (EVM).
Critical Path Method.
Control of execution if the scope of the project is unknown.
During the lecture, you will learn to use the hierarchical structure of the work and the requirements tracking matrix to control the content. You’ll figure out how to calculate deviations of earned value and look at the example of working with a critical way.

Monitoring in Agile projects and Remote Teams

We’ll help you understand the specifics of monitoring remote teams and the Delivery process in different methodologies and frameworks. Learn what it takes to build good processes and how to manage expectations.
What to choose: Scrum or Kanban;
Board types: Releases, Feature, Team;
Continuous Integration, Delivery, Deployment;
Control Graph, Cumulative Flow Diagram, Velocity Chart.
During the lecture, you will understand which metrics are best to use for monitoring and controlling the work of the team. You’ll learn how to properly control Workflow and how team culture helps to work more efficiently.

Working with changes: models and frameworks

We’ll learn what change really are, what they can be and when they are needed. We’ll consider the reasons that lead to the failure of changes and how to deal with the change management process.
Why we are afraid of changes and how to deal with this;
Why 70% of changes fail and how to prepare a team for them;
How to identify unsuccessful implementations using frameworks and models;
Implementation of organizational strategy using Kotter’s 8 step method;
How to use PDCA in IT projects;
Lean Change Management.
During the lecture, you will learn what initiates changes and what models for working with changes exist. You’ll analyze the phases of changes in Project Management and consider what steps should be taken in each phase.

Work with changes: documentation and metrics

We will learn how to set goals and what problems may arise with them. We’ll help you understand how to work with the unknown in planning.

Avoidance of empty goals in the project;
How to document planned and unplanned work;
Scope Change Control;
How to count Leading Indicators;
How to influence Lagging indicators.
During the lecture, you will examine a case on work with changes in Scrum. You’ll see how to monitor changes and what templates there are to work with them, as well as learn how to build a change process.

Working with changes: team and communication

We will find out what bad communication can lead to. We will examine the role of the leader and manager in changes. We’ll consider the importance of motivation in working with the team.

During the lecture, you will learn what approaches to changes to use in what situation. You’ll understand why it is important to consider emotions while working with changes and how emotions influence decision-making. For your homework, you will create your own Change Manifesto.

Metrics in a project

We’ll help you understand what metrics exist and how to work with them, see which metrics should be tracked at each stage of the project.
Why it is important to monitor the Burn Down Chart;
Velocity as a project management tool;
Types of technical metrics;
Basic Kanban Metrics;
Description and definition of attributes of quality;
Metrics for a team.
During the lecture, you will analyze the examples of metrics that are needed for the work of a Project Manager. You’ll learn how to track which metrics in a team to understand how effective you are, and how to improve possible results.

Project completion and delegation

We’ll help you understand how to complete a project and what to do if a project is not completing successfully. You’ll learn how to properly delegate a product or a project.

Delegating the project to support;
Unfair ways to deliver the work;
Delegating the project to another PM;
Post-Mortem.
During the lecture, you will find out what kind of reporting is required for the project. In your homework, you will consolidate the skills you have gained from the lecture by describing your project for completion or transfer to another PM.

Adaptation in different structural types of companies

We’ll help you understand what adaptation is and how it differs in different structures of companies. You will learn what the adaptation cycle is and what it consists of, consider how to assess the effectiveness of adaptation and how long it can last.
Adaptation in a functional company.

Adaptation in a project company.
During the lecture, you will learn why you need to manage adaptation and how to do it correctly. You will analyze the map of communications through examples, and for the homework, you’ll create a communication map and RACI matrix for your project.
